What can be the sharpening of professional manicure tools
There are 2 main types of sharpening of manicure tools - factory and manual. Factory is the one with which most instruments are sold. It maintains the sharpness of the blades for 10-15 uses, after which the blades begin to dull. It is impossible to work with a tool with a blunt working surface - there is a high risk of getting burrs, wounds, torn edges of the skin.
Manual sharpening is of higher quality and more reliable. But it requires a certain skill and skill. How to sharpen nail scissors at home? How to sharpen nail scissors, tweezers and other tools correctly and efficiently? Craftsmen use one of 2 types of machines - laser or mechanical.
Laser equipment allows you to get a more accurate sharpening, but the metal is sharpened and thinned faster during such processing. Mechanical machines are equipped with a grinding wheel with diamond abrasive, which, while rotating, allows you to grind the blades to the desired sharpness.
Sharpening manicure tools at home requires the use of sharpening tools. You will need:
- whetstone (or rasp);
- sandpaper;
- material for checking the level of sharpening (we will talk about them later in the article).
How to sharpen nail scissors at home? With the help of a sharpening bar or rasp, larger areas of the blades are processed in compliance with the factory sharpening angles. After this rough treatment, the blades are sharpened with sandpaper. It is convenient to attach it to any base (for example, the handle of a spoon or fork). Of course, no one will give guarantees of success with self-sharpening and lack of skills. If you use professional expensive tools, it is better to turn to professionals.
How to check the quality of sharpening a manicure tool
How well are the scissors or nail clippers sharpened? Simple checks can help you determine the quality of your blade sharpness results. Take any of the following materials:
- polyethylene film;
- stretch film;
- non-woven cloth (wet and dry);
- gloves made of latex, vinyl or nitrile.
How to check the sharpening? Fix the polyethylene so that the edge of the film is straight. Close the scissors handles and cut. Good blades will not pull or tear the polyethylene.
Checking on stretch film is the most important one. Cut it like a plastic bag. The film should not be stretched or cut unevenly by scissors.
If you cut the napkin with a poorly sharpened tool, then the cut line will not be even. This check clearly demonstrates the presence of burrs on the metal.
For a glove test, stretch the product between your fingers and connect the handles of the instrument. Very often scissors cut well at the base, but do not work well at the ends. Checking on the glove will show if there is a problem in sharpening the scissor tips.
In any case, there should be no gaps between the blades after closing. If, however, you are testing a tool with one cutting plane (pusher, knife), it is enough to carry out the cutting motion over the tested material. A well-sharpened blade will not cause resistance and will create a beautiful, even cut.
